Our Wedding

We found each other the old-fashioned way — through our mothers. Not an app, not a chance encounter, not a meet-cute in a coffee shop. Our mothers. Which means Jamila's mother will absolutely be taking full credit for this marriage for the rest of her natural life, and honestly, she has earned every bit of it.We didn't bond over building blocks, dolls, or toy trucks like most childhood friendships. No, we were far too competitive for all of that. Our connection was forged through board games, battles of knowledge, and the enthusiastic, fully committed declaration of "BOLOGNA!" at every possible opportunity. We were the kind of kids who fact-checked each other before fact-checking was cool. Decades of combined knowledge will do that to you. Now, it must be said that John's mother knew something the rest of us were still figuring out. She told him on more than one occasion that he should have married Jamila. Let that sink in. The woman was a prophet, a matchmaker, and apparently not above a little holy interference in the name of love. She went home to glory about ten years ago, but if you listen closely on October 3rd, that joyful noise you hear just might be her dancing and singing in heaven, finally watching what she always knew was supposed to happen. We have no doubt she has already taken her seat in the best section of the celestial gallery and has been bragging to anyone who would listen. She waited a long time to be right about this, and she was right all along. What was true in the beginning is still true now. We have always been completely and unapologetically authentic with each other. Whether that looks like Jamila's natural leadership abilities (bossy, her word, not ours, okay it's ours) or John's legendary can do attitude (the man will attempt anything, pray for him and keep the first aid kit close), they never lost that honesty. Through all the seasons of life doing exactly what life does, they kept checking on each other. A phone call here, a how are you there. Quietly, consistently, faithfully showing up.And then God, who has the absolute best timing and zero obligation to explain Himself, decided that now was the moment. A little wiser. A little more seasoned. A few more laugh lines and hard won lessons between them. Still bossy. Still willing to attempt things that require good insurance. Still calling bologna when the situation demands it.We are not the same people who faced off over a board game all those years ago. We are better. And we are walking into this next chapter with full hearts, grateful spirits, and the very good sense to finally stop playing games and just say yes to each other. To everyone who is here celebrating for us and with us, thank you. You are part of this story too, and we would not have it any other way. 🥂

A Love Story Decades in the Making

Our Story

🌿 Guest Q&A: Everything You Need to KnowWelcome to the Eastern Shore of Maryland! Q1: Where exactly is the Eastern Shore of Maryland?A: The Eastern Shore sits on the Delmarva Peninsula — land nestled between the Chesapeake Bay to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. Princess Anne is a charming small town about 2.5 hours from Washington D.C., 2 hours from Baltimore, and 3 hours from Philadelphia. If you've never crossed the Bay Bridge — buckle up, it's a moment. Q2: Do I need a car?A: Yes, absolutely. The Eastern Shore is rural and beautiful, but rideshare options (Uber/Lyft) are very limited outside of Ocean City. Rent a car, carpool with fellow guests, or coordinate with your hotel. Getting around independently will make your trip so much more enjoyable — and the scenic drives through farmland and waterways are honestly half the experience. Q3: Where should I stay?A: You have wonderful options across several areas, with something for every style and budget. Each location offers traditional hotels, boutique inns, Airbnbs, and Vrbo vacation rentals:— Salisbury, MD (15 min away) — Most convenient home base. Major chains like Marriott, Hampton Inn, and Hilton Garden Inn, plus local Airbnbs and rental homes throughout the area.— Ocean City, MD (30–40 min) — Perfect if you want to extend the trip into a beach getaway. Tons of hotel options, countless Airbnbs, and Vrbo condos right on the water.— Cambridge, MD (45 min north) — Charming waterfront town. The stunning Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay is a splurge-worthy resort option, with beautiful Airbnb homes along the water as well.— Berlin or Snow Hill, MD (20–30 min) — Quaint, walkable small towns with lovely B&Bs, inns, and cozy Vrbo cottage rentals for a tucked-away feel. Q4: Should I book accommodations early?A: Please don't wait. The Eastern Shore fills up fast, especially during fall festival season. Book the moment you confirm attendance — options go quickly and prices rise as the date approaches. Q5: What's the weather like in early October on the Eastern Shore?A: Early October is honestly one of the best times to visit the Shore. Here's what to typically expect around October 3rd:— Daytime highs: 65–72°F — comfortable and pleasant— Evening lows: 48–55°F — noticeably cooler once the sun goes down— Conditions: Mostly sunny with low humidity; the thick summer air is long gone— Fall foliage: Just beginning to show, with golden and amber tones starting to appear across the farmland and tree lines— Wind: Light breezes are common, especially in open clearingsWhat to pack: A light-to-medium layer for the evening is a must — what starts as a warm afternoon can feel quite cool by sunset. Think a stylish wrap, blazer, or light jacket that complements your outfit. Ladies, a pashmina or cardigan works beautifully. Gentlemen, a sport coat does double duty here. Q6: We're from the Midwest — how different will this feel from home?A: You'll actually feel right at home in many ways — the Shore has that same warmth, friendliness, and wide-open landscape that Midwesterners love. What's different is the water is everywhere. Creeks, rivers, the Bay, marshlands — it's a beautifully unique coastal ecosystem. Early October brings crisp, dry air that feels very familiar to a Midwest fall, just with a slight saltwater breeze and the sound of waterfowl overhead. Q7: Will there be bugs?A: Good news — by early October, the mosquito situation has improved significantly compared to summer. You may encounter a few in the evening near wooded or marshy areas, but nothing like the summer months. A light bug spray tucked in your bag is smart just in case, but most guests won't need it at all. Q8: What should I absolutely eat while I'm here?A: Do not leave the Eastern Shore without experiencing these:— Maryland Blue Crabs — steamed and seasoned, eaten at a paper-covered table. This is non-negotiable.— Smith Island Cake — Maryland's official state dessert; a stunning multi-layered confection— Fresh Chesapeake Oysters — fall is prime oyster season, so your timing is perfect— Eastern Shore Fried Chicken — a beloved regional tradition— Rockfish — locally caught and beautifully prepared at most Shore restaurants Q9: What should I wear to the event?A: Smart casual and comfortable — think garden party meets backyard cookout. Lean into the event colors: evergreen, gold, white, and tan. Given the October weather, a chic layer for the evening is highly recommended. Skip the stilettos — we're on one acre of gorgeous grass — and leave anything uncomfortably fitted at the hotel. Look lovely, breathe freely, and enjoy yourself. Q10: Is the venue accessible?A: The event is held in a one-acre grassy clearing on natural ground — not pavement. If you have mobility considerations, please reach out to us directly so we can ensure you are comfortable and well accommodated. Q11: What time should I arrive?A: Please arrive on time or just a few minutes early. Unlike a church or banquet hall, an outdoor gathering on private property has no lobby to wait in — and navigating a grassy clearing late means an audience. We all want to avoid that. You included. Q12: What if it rains?A: October on the Shore is generally dry and mild, but we always have a plan. We have a contingency plan in place and will communicate any changes as early as possible. Tucking a compact umbrella or light rain wrap in your bag is always a smart move for any outdoor fall event. Q13: Any helpful tips for getting around?A: A few practical notes:— Download maps offline — cell service can be spotty in rural areas— Bring some cash — farm stands, local markets, and some beloved crab shacks are cash-friendly— Give yourself extra time — Shore roads are scenic and rural; GPS occasionally gets creative out here— Find a Chesapeake Bay sunset — it will stop you in your tracks, guaranteed We are so grateful you're making the journey to celebrate with us. Welcome to one of the most beautiful and soulful corners of the East Coast.

Florals, solids, and patterns that play nicely with these shades are all welcome. Think lush forest meets golden hour. You’ll photograph beautifully. Trust us.The Comfort Sweet Spot✅ YES to breathable fabrics, sundresses, linen pants, flowy tops, and clean sneakers or sandals✅ YES to looking like you tried — even just a little❌ NO to squeezing yourself into something that requires a spotter and a deep exhale to zip❌ NO to anything you’d wear to grab milk at midnight we love you, but this is a momentA Word on Footwear: We’re on grass. Stilettos will betray you. Wedges, flats, block heels, or a fresh pair of kicks your ankles will thank you later.Bottom line: Come looking like you belong at a lovely outdoor gathering, because you do. Be comfortable enough to laugh, dance, and eat , in that order.

🐴 While You're Here: Things to Do on the Eastern Shore The Eastern Shore is far more than a destinationit's an experience. If you can arrive a day early or stay a day longer, here are some things you simply shouldn't miss: Assateague Island National Seashore — Wild ponies roaming freely on a pristine Atlantic beach. This is one of the most uniquely magical experiences on the entire East Coast and it is completely free to visit. Plan at least half a day — you will not want to leave. Ocean City Boardwalk — A classic American seaside boardwalk with great seafood, shops, and beautiful fall beach walks. October means fewer crowds and perfect walking weather. Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge — Early October is peak fall migration season, making this one of the best times of year to witness thousands of waterfowl and migratory birds moving through the marshlands. Stunning and serene. Berlin & St. Michaels — Two of the Shore's most beloved small towns. Berlin is a walkable Main Street gem with boutiques, antique shops, and wonderful restaurants. St. Michaels sits right on the water with a charming maritime museum and exceptional dining. The Chesapeake Bay — Whether you take a boat tour, rent a kayak, or simply sit along the water, the Bay is the soul of the Shore. An October sunset over the Chesapeake is something that stays with you long after you've gone home. Farm Stands & Local Markets — Fall on the Eastern Shore means roadside stands overflowing with pumpkins, sweet potatoes, local honey, fresh produce, and homemade preserves. Bring cash and bring a bag.Don't be surprised if you start browsing real estate before the weekend is over. The Shore has a way of doing that to people.

✈️ Getting Here: Travel & Airport InformationWelcome, travelers! We are so excited you are making the journey to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Here is everything you need to know to get here smoothly. Flying In — Your Airport Options: You have five airports to choose from depending on where you're traveling from:— BWI (Baltimore/Washington International) — about 2 hours away; largest selection of flights and airlines and usually the most affordable fares — PHL (Philadelphia International) — about 2.5 hours; excellent hub with wide flight availability from the Midwest — DCA (Reagan National, Washington D.C.) — about 2.5–3 hours; convenient if you're connecting through the mid-Atlantic — IAD (Dulles International, Northern Virginia) — about 3 hours; excellent for international connections and often has competitive fares — SBY (Salisbury-Ocean City Regional) — right on the Shore, just 15–20 minutes from the venue! Smaller airport with limited routes, but if your airline serves it, this is your golden ticketPro tip: Check SBY first — if you can get there directly, skip the big airport traffic and road time entirely. Once You Land — You'll Need a Car: The Eastern Shore is rural, breathtaking, and not particularly Uber-friendly outside of Ocean City. Plan to rent a car at the airport or carpool with fellow guests. The drive itself — whether crossing the iconic Chesapeake Bay Bridge or winding through miles of golden farmland — is part of the experience. Give yourself plenty of time, download your maps offline (cell service can be spotty in rural areas), and enjoy the ride.
